Peter Gould is a designer specializing in museum exhibitions and environments. He approaches exhibitions as a collaborative process with clients, creating exceptional design to communicate the curatorial narrative and articulate the interior architecture for dynamic and unique visitor experiences.

Peter’s exhibition experience includes leading design and exhibition production at the New Museum, New York City from 2000-2004 and at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles from 2006-2017. As an independent, Peter designs exhibitions for some of Southern California’s premiere cultural institutions, including the California African American Museum, the Huntington Art Museum, the Institute of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, and the Museum of Contemporary Art. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley and his Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

WORK EXPERIENCE

HAMMER MUSEUM, UCLA

Head of Exhibition Design and Production, 2013-2017

responsible for designing, planning, budgeting, coordinating and implementing most phases of the museum’s installations. In conjunction with the Curatorial Department, assist curators and artists to realize conceptual and practical solutions to projects. Position includes researching, consulting and hiring technicians and fabricators to produce works; designing, managing and coordinating all construction and infrastructure in museum galleries; producing design solutions and floor plans for curatorial team and production drawings for contractors, fabricators and tradesmen; coordinating contract bidding, generating contracts and payments; and producing construction calendar and project phasing coordinated with other museum departments. Responsible for forecasting and managing the exhibition budget for each fiscal year. Manage and coordinate all audio visual components for museums exhibitions, including hiring AV technicians, coordinating in-house AV staff and IT staff to realize exhibition needs and oversee AV related upgrades and purchasing. Supervisory duties include oversight of full-time and part-time exhibition technicians and AV staff members. Assist Deputy Directors and Operations Director on exhibition related facility issues for the museum.
